Boulevard Apartments

Description:
This project consists of 15 one-bedroom units for 14 very low-income residents with serious mental illness and 1 on-site manager in 3 two-story, wood-framed buildings. Two of the buildings have three units on each floor while the third building includes a community room, office, and laundry room on the first floor with three apartments on the second floor. Since the non-profit developer’s experience with individuals with serious mental illness indicates that residents need private outdoor space attached to their units, each apartment has a private deck or patio. A sense of privacy is especially important to persons with mental illness, so all units have individual entries and directly access the outside with no enclosed public corridors. A landscaped courtyard on the interior of the site will be used for planned and spontaneous social/recreational activities which are critical to the success of independent living. Numerous passive and active energy efficiencies are employed throughout the project.
