La Playa Apartments

Description:
A four-story, supportive residential environment with 13 two-bedroom apartments for families with at least one adult with a mental disability. The project also contains a one bedroom resident manager’s unit along with community room, lounge, counseling room, management office, laundry, courtyard with tot lot and both tuck-under and surface parking for 4 cars. Social services offered include individual counseling, crisis intervention, and assistance in obtaining entitlements. The building fits well into the scale of the surrounding community and is adjacent to a public bus line and a variety of shopping opportunities. The purpose of the design is to provide privacy within an overall building environment that supports and encourages interaction among residents whenever possible. The project succeeds in offering the appropriate balance between independent living and community opportunities to minimize isolation, loneliness, and problems with daily living skills.
