Sisters of Notre Dame

Location:

Belmont, CA

Description:

This multi-use facility incorporates 24 units of residential assisted living, a chapel, and provincial offices for The Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur.  The project succeeds in integrating many diverse uses in one structure, protecting the independence of each, while providing for equal access throughout the building.  The building configuration takes advantage of southern exposures and the surrounding arboreal environment. The central core, containing offices for a 25 person workforce (including mezzanine), lounge, dining, chapel, library, computer room, exercise/craft room, and multi-purpose room, is flanked by a pair of residential “wings” containing 24 assisted living units.  Each wing has clusters of units around a common “living” room.  The residential facilities have assisted bathing rooms and a room for private family dining.  The wings wrap around a “healing garden” that can be viewed from the units and common areas.
