Kokoro Assisted Living

Location:

San Francisco, CA

Description:

This project involves the consolidation of a renovated existing historic building (built in 1895 and abandoned for 25 years) and new construction to create an Assisted Living Center.  The existing historic synagogue building was renovated to create a dining and activity facility for the residents and the surrounding community, containing lobby and reception, dining room and commercial kitchen, library, lounges, and supportive spaces.  New construction of a six-story residential development provides 54 assisted living, single room dwelling units and one bedroom apartments for seniors.  A substantial percentage of the units are earmarked for low income seniors.  The new building is designed around a courtyard, which provides a private and secure outdoor place for residents.
